The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that there are over 270,000 unsolved homicides in the United States. Nationwide, police departments and sheriffs' offices are under-resourced with homicide divisions that are working diligently just to keep up with current caseloads. As this number of cold case homicides continue to rise, The Vidocq Society and its 200+ members with their respective centuries of experience provide a wealth of knowledge and experience to assist law enforcement in furthering their investigations of cold cases. The Society does on a pro bono basis and bears the cost of flying detectives to Philadelphia to review their cold cases and provide its assistance.
